Do they really send your CV?

Hi all. am a newbie, to this forum. Have been contracting for a while, but seeing a new trend. An agency sends you a whole bunch of specs, you reply to them telling which ones are suitable for your skill set. After mailing them that they can represent me, i do not hear anything from them!!. Are they really putting my cv forward? Is there a way to check? Some of my collegues at work said it is trick so that they reduce the no of cvs reaching the client by other agencies. Could this be true??

Yes, sadly it can be true.

First thing, don't fall for this mass mail/jobs thing. Be choosy with the roles you go for; look at JobServe and contact the agents when you see something you like. I always get recruiters who want to represent me to state in writing by return e-mail that they are preferred suppliers and that they've sent my CV to the client. Most wouldn't dare confirm this in writing if it wasn't true.

After that if I get contacted by any other agents over the same role, I will ALWAYS get them to check with the client first that my cv has been submitted; if it hasn't, I'll let the other agency send it in.

      it is definately true. Unfortunately
I've started getting agent names, and direct numbers. Always, if they ask to represent you, make sure you get the agents complete details. and ask them to forward you a mail when submitted.
Mind you, I've been on the bench since end of march. and am slowly going mad
