You haven't mentioned whether your current contract offers the chance of renewal.

IMHO, if it does, stay there and if it doesn't take the new role and by all means scout around for other roles thereafter.

A bird in the hand and all that...

If you aren't fussed about it, then tell the agent that you don't work by the hour at that rate - it's either £Y per hour, or £X per day.

And then be prepared to walk away from it.

You could spend some time learning what "to play Devils Advocate" means

I would say if you don't care if you get it or not then ask for an hourly rate that WOULD suit you and if they go for that then take the hit on going to the interview.

I would not say I had something else if actually I was still looking, they may have other stuff for you, and not getting enough cash is a fair enough reason to turn down a gig.

if you're not bothered about the role unless the rate is better then this is the only thing to do, but don't say you have something brand new lined up but that you are being offered an extension at a rate better than what you are on- what you don't want to be doing is negotiating over a role that doesn't exist just use your existing role as leverage - 'very interested in the job you are offering but it's just too low a rate' that way you can still pretend to be interested and not burn any bridges

3) Take a gamble that might pay off as above

Any comments from folks in similar situations would be welcomed...

Sounds like barcrap. They usual have a second interview.

TBH I'd **** it off. If they cant decide after one interview, I dont want to know.

Hasnt harmed me yet.

Most likely the latter. I don't see what the problem is with going to a second interview with the client.

Do the interview, If you are still not sure about the job then tell the agent you want more money for it. If they pay up then cool, otherwise just don't take the job. If you are not really bothered about the job then don't waste everyone's time - tell the agent and then the other bloke can take the job without needing to do a second interview.
