The agent who got me the current (2 month) gig is going for a pint with the Clientco manager who is the client contact for my role, and has invited me along. I've barely spoken to the manager in question due to the nature of my role and I have much better things to do with my spare time than spend it with a "recruitment consultant" so initially I made an excuse, but now I'm wondering if there might be some benefit to me in going. Any thoughts?

excuse is fine, if you are the social type then go for itCloud Computing - Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? -
Are they paying? I had an agent buy me a pint and pub lunch once (in Bristol as it happens). He told me all about the Ferrari he'd just bought. I always had the impression he was on a rather large percentage.
It never hurts to get on friendly terms with the person who decides on your renewal. Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

Yes, you go. You may have found a ½ decent agent that it is worth getting to know.
Remember to take your wallet. Last time an agent took me out for coffee, he "forgot" his and I had to pay.My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.Comment

Dont go its a trap!!!!!!!!!!Best of luck, but don't smoke Cubans in a Merc; the smell invades the bespoke carpets and the nicotine stains the leather, all of which causes unnecessary depreciation.
Besides, if you really want to be a prick, buy an Audi Q7.Comment

There's no harm in going along. At least it will make things easy when it comes to renewal time.Comment

If so, I'd go. If they expect me to buy them a round I'd jib it off.I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!Comment

Go, as others have said an opportunity to get to know the boss a little better.
So what if you are expected to buy a round, may prove a wise investment in the future.Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.Comment
