Go, as others have said an opportunity to get to know the boss a little better.

So what if you are expected to buy a round, may prove a wise investment in the future.

Is it a total freebie ie the agent is paying and you're not expected to buy a round?

If so, I'd go. If they expect me to buy them a round I'd jib it off.

i would go, opportunity to get in there with the client co boss is never a bad idea

agent meetings can be a bit hit a miss, last one i had was pretty good, bought me lunch and a pint and just chatted in general, didn't fish for leads

Yes, you go. You may have found a ½ decent agent that it is worth getting to know.

Remember to take your wallet. Last time an agent took me out for coffee, he "forgot" his and I had to pay.

Are they paying? I had an agent buy me a pint and pub lunch once (in Bristol as it happens). He told me all about the Ferrari he'd just bought. I always had the impression he was on a rather large percentage.

It never hurts to get on friendly terms with the person who decides on your renewal.

It won't do you any harm to get to know the clientco manager better. The agent is probably just bringing you in case he runs out of one-liners to use on your boss.

excuse is fine, if you are the social type then go for it
