I had that in the 90s. Leeds was full of Southerners and I had to go down to the smoke for gigs.

I often wondered if this was deliberate. The only time I got a contract "back home" was when I had moved 100 miles away.

There must be some sort of CV location sensor that means agents will only pick you out if you live over 50 miles away from the role.

Yep, same experience here - jobs all over cheshire, even l'pool and wales but nada inside the M60.
Exception is the odd one at the Co-op that pops up. Contrast for me is Leeds which usually has a fair few available.
I can't travel at the mo so having to take benchtime and some ugly rates to keep ticking over.

Mmmmm Co-op, the memories ... did a stint at the Co-op Funeral Services site in M'cr city - talking about stiffs and coffins all day - those were the days...

230 contracts in IT within 16km is quite a loose definition of "no contracts".

18 here within 40km (all industries), which is unusually high.

I get this all the time when I have found an agent who knows where London is and I am in a London based role.

"Great contract came up in <somewhere middle of GB>. It''ll be nearer home for you / help you on your way back to Scotland."
I don't frigging want to be in Jockland, I've spent half my adult life trying to get out the tuliphole.

And how the hell is a several hours drive better than an hour and a bit relaxing with a cup of tea on a flight, even I wanted to visit people up north .

What's the job in Blackpool? I have to commute to smelly Preston every day and like others see very little to nought in Manchester.

As for darn sarf - I often see roles that were almost written from my CV in the home counties, London or the 'folks
                Permietractor (probably)

Sorry are you trying to fish for information .

All you need to know is that its one of the few large companies in the blackpool area. The problem with blackpool is that the only option is car. Before I used to commute to crewe and I had the option of Several trains including Virgin (which did it in 15 mins from wilmslow).

Smelly Preston would be a good option to me, I just don't want to be working in the public sector if I can avoid it. I hope I can find one within a 40 min commute next time.

Nope just curious - unless its in Change (mis)Management or BA

Could you not train it to Blackpool? Apparently we serve Manchester and even London directly now

One of the 'biggies' in Blackpool is the Dept. for Work and Pensions (DWP) or the old DSS.

I did a gig there in the early Noughties .... never again !!

The premises are like a 'step back in time' with browns and beiges ...
