    False advertising

Seems an agency out there advertising for Message Broker specialists is disguising the fact that they won't consider CV's if you've worked for the client before.

Me thinks this is simply a ploy to grab CV's to trawl the market and its basically false advertising.

it could be rhyming with mentinal with an 'S' in there somewhere........

    Avoid !

What you think is your business, what other people think isn't. Why are you coming on here telling everyone to avoid everything without explaining the situation full and quantifying the reason to avoid. It is pretty common for agencies to favour people that have worked for the client before. Nothing wrong with that and why avoid? We might have worked for that client before and you are telling us to avoid and throw a contract away.

I am starting to think you are actually applying for everything and you are then telling everyone else to avoid to up your chances

What, you've been in the business for 20 years and you've just noticed this? Of course it's common practice.

I don't think most agencies actually advertise real jobs, they just put up these fake ones, gather CVs and then approach the people who appear to be the best fit.

            ???

If there are no real jobs, what are they "the best fit" for then?

Sorry if that wasn't clear, what I meant was "The real jobs aren't advertised".

They harvest a load of CVs using fake/vague job ads, then go through their list of real jobs (which they don't advertise) and find CVs that look like a good fit. If they put an ad in Jobserve for a "blah blah blah, City of London, banking experience essential, German speaking useful" (Hmm, wonder where that job might be!!) all the other agencies are all over it like flies around tulip. Unless the agency is on a cast iron PSL then they are going to be beating other agencies off with a tulipty stick.

Instead, they put some feelers out, vague and nonspecific. Then after a bit of a chat with the contractor, sound out their skills and eventually they come out with "well that one we advertised is gone, but can I talk to you about this other opportunity....."

And you wonder why some of us feel that agents simply get in the way of dealing with clients on a professional basis ????? With dodgy practices like this going on all the time, why should the best of us accept this as the norm ? Just because it goes on doesn't make it acceptable...it has to be stamped out.... last agent I caught doing that, and who fessed up doing it because he wanted to get CV's in for his new business role, I threatened to report to the agency regulators if he didn't pull the role. He summarily did....

Jeez, dude, calm down. The last thing on this earth that should be winding you up is an Agent...

As other's have already pointed out to you: this is how many - most? - agents act. Just remember the names of the one's you've found to be useless and avoid them. Let's face it, real jobs always have several agencies working on them - irrespective of the bull-shine spouted by the agents of "exclusivity" - so simply apply for roles through more reputable agencies. Sorted.

Yes, you are right: this shouldn't be the "norm"; then again, nor should having to deal with the mess created by 10,000,000 "Bobs" each day, but that's just how this business is these days. Just take the money and run.

Are you lot taking the pi55?? Seriously!

You're assumption that 99% of advertised roles are false, is completely wrong. Do you know how much those job boards COST to advertise on??

I don't do it, I don't know of any of my colleagues doing it, and I would suggest to you, that trawling through the Sh1te response you get off of a vauge advert would be FAR too much effort for a recruiter who is busy.
