Awful Contract, see it out? Or do a Rooney?

    Hi,

I started a new 3 month contract 6 weeks ago, however the work is not what I expected and the organization is not existent, with everyone generally hating each other.

The market for my skillset is quite "buoyant", so I think I could get another lines up easily. The problem is contract states I cant give notice period, however I am never likely to want to work here again.

Should I do a Rooney or be good boy like Scholes.

My heart always says be a good boy. You have taken the contract, and are already half way through, your word should be your bond. But if the contract is really getting you down then go fishing and see what turns up. If you get an offer that is better in terms of money / commute then it would be easier to make a decision.

Be candid with your boss. Tell him the company sucks, the employees suck and frankly you'd rather be in Iraq wearing a Tony Blair mask and a large bullseye than spend another minute feigning interest in this shit: hole.

Firstly you'll feel a damn site better and secondly he might just terminate your contract at which point you can bugger off somewhere else.

Start looking now and you might just roll off that job into the next one in six weeks time I reckon. Otherwise, I believe life is too short to be miserable any.

Miserable is being in the same situation, but in a permanent job.

I didnt really gel with the manager at my last clientco, so when they gave me a months notice (cost saving measure so they say) I walked in the next day and informed them that I would prefer to leave within a week as it would save then even more money. They agreed, I posted my cv on Jobserve and bagged a new role before the end of my last week. So if your skills are in demand as you say, there are no issues, just tell em you are not gelling with the team etc and leave.

Hmm seems a bit drastic... might just see it out.

                Stick it out.........unless.....

I have had some awful contracts, only walked out on one but that was hard work - boss demanded I worked my 4 week notice and made me do all kinds of menial rubbish.

I just try to focus on the ££££ and dream of that holiday I will take at the end of the contract!!

You're halfway through, stick it out.

Start looking soon and line something up for when you finish.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I will probably stick it out and just invoice and do my best given the environment. My next dilemma may be if they offer me an extension, but thats for another day.
