Things are going well for my self so far,

started contracting in November following redundancy, managed to secure a contract in November working direct to client (process change) in the south west, now part way through a 3 month contract working for public sector with potential extension in March (all being well)

    Simon.

I'm North West based though, and have no intention on working down there, so won't stand on your toes
Quite a few jobs, but everyone is looking for C# which isn't my current primary skill, AND VB/VBA with it and I've only done some debugging and enhancements to existing C# code. Which worked well, but not what the general populous is looking for.

Like most of the time, you need the right skills at the right levels.

I'm currently teaching myself C# and .NET while benched to add another string to my bow, hard work though.

I've come to the conclusion that .NET is the thing to learn first then I can decide on C# or VB.NET, but C# is winning in the banking market place at the moment.

C# and Vb.net are really much of a muchness and it boils down to syntax half the time.

Learn C# because if you know vb you can pick up vb.net in no time.

not good for me.....a few calls but no interviews.....I reckon it's karma for me, as I turned down quite a few interviews back in Nov, as the wife wanted me around for hospital visits - worried about fertility issues, then I find out with a prelim scan in Dec she's pregnant!!

Was offered one role, but then no news, no contract issued, the job just disappeared, very annoying.

So far, no joy in Jan!

Forgetting any technical differences, C# is the winner by a country mile in terms of the job market IMHO.

I'm sure I read somewhere Microsoft is pushing it more than VB.Net as well.

Seems to be an abundance of BA/PM/Generic Project Nerd roles about which is in contrast to the constant whining on here that they are scarce

Its always been pushed more although I do remember finding something in VB.net that is not available within c# directly.
