    Agent tricks?

    Help!,
I just Interviewed and got a contract role on a fair rate the role is based close to my home, having made an agreement and confirming the the rate abother agent from this lrge (reputable?1?!) agency has called me back telling me the client can only pay 2/3 of the rate we agreed , I presume the agent is trying it on - the agent knows I would like this contract and I am struggling to find anyone at the client that can conirfm the agent is trying it on , any advice / experience of this ???

I would say to the agent that I accept the reduced offer, meanwhile keep looking for another contract, then on the eve of the assigenment tell the agent, for business reasons, you need the orignal as agreed rate or its no show.

        Whatever you do, bonne chance.

I I do have another contract this was at short notice , the revised rate is the same as the rate I'm wokring for at the moment the bonus as ever is the money and time save having a job on my doorstep, the annoyance is the greed of the agent when I when to the interview having confirmed the rate first.. do they have consiences?

Isn't contracting where the streets are paved with gold and the roads are lined with mercs while the consultants and agents work in harmony???

Phone the client, say you're no coming any more and tell them you cannot accept the reduction in rate they are proposing.

There's no point taking the gig, since you don't want to work with that agent ever again, nor do you want to give him any money. So originally agreed rate and margin, or nothing. Simple really.
