    NHS or RBS

Have two offers on the table.. rate wise they are pretty much the same once I level out travel/accomodation costs. I'd have to live away during the week. What would people say looks better on their CV? offer the most potential. Experience of working in the sector? I have previous NHS experience, banking I do not.

I also have a perm offer but am discounting that.

What a choice - both are public sector.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

aye! both are public sector - though one looks it and the other seemed pretty corporate from first impressions.

I need to make a decision as to whether I would hack spending best part of 7hrs each week driving or 5hrs flying.

I'd go with RBS to get some banking experience under your belt if all else is the same.

Remember RBS will want evidence you have managed your finances impeccably, which is somewhat ironic.

NHS - is niche and I know the systems very well.
RBS - is tacit knowledge and I know the system they use there too.

            How long is each contract?

Do I hold them to it

NHS - want a golden handcuff 6 months
RBS - 3 month rolling, agent said initially 6 months.

Which one do you think offers the most opportunities for future work?

My gut says Banking as thats what I have seen on jobserve.

How risk-averse are you? (Do you pick the area you know, or the one you don't?)

I am not risk averse... happy to jump and see where I land. I learn pretty quick and get on with most peeps. I've worked in numerous areas but last thing I want is not to be specialised in any... therefore thinking banking is yet another new area.

            Which one actually interests you?

I don't mind either being honest. NHS is one which I would be see'ing customer value. RBS is just another contractor in a big giant.

Ask yourself some basic questions, and I think the answer will reveal itself to you.

Sorry I don't "get you" - what do you mean?? I've got the offer and the role does not involve me managing finance which is a nice change! they have a finance manager for that.

I think I'd be pretty nervous taking what's seen as an expensive contractor rate in the NHS, when "cutting 1000 £500/day IT contractors" is a good headline for a government looking to be seen as saving money.

I'd go for the bank, because as well as this, if the UK crashes you can maybe get work in another country with transferable skills.

All banks credit check their staff so if you have any CCJs or anything else then they won't take you one.
