Immediate start to me means if you cant start within the next 5 working days tops, then, thanks but its too long to wait.
It's that time of year the 4 weeks means, "we haven't got budget approval till april" so we'll offer you the role and leave you swinging till then.

Ah unlucky Bolshie... agent could be telling the truth - ah who am I kidding! On with the march ... atleast its a sunny day!

I had a quick look round on whats posted out there and not much in my field today but I finally uploaded my CV to monster - lets see if that gets me calls. I did have one call this morning and I got excited first only to end up with speaking to the local job centre reminding me its a "snr exec job club tmrw at the age concern centre" oh joy maybe they'll have tea and biscuits... well who am I kidding now.

I am going to make it my goal by Wednesday to have atleast some sort of interview penned in! Here we go...

I've had the exact opposite, I'm not due to finish for a couple of weeks but agents have been phoning up wanting people available to interview now for monday starts

Yes I think in this market (as in previous downturns), there seems to be more interest if you are already working instead of those who arent. Never could get my head around that one.

My point about 'immediately available' was in response to the comment that its always like that. It isnt always. I've had jobs where the client isnt looking to start for 4 weeks (and I got the job!)

Yes, I have found the same i.e. when you are in work - you have agents calling you! but when your looking - you have to hunt them down and smooch

Well I have heeded some advice to chillout a bit and go with the flow. Applied for one role, waiting to hear back on 3 positions and I have managed to get my first interview next week (meaning - I'll shave!) However on with the march as I am taking nothing for granted and will not stop until I can see the contract in my inbox.

PS. What do people say when they opt in/opt out? does it make any difference... its been so long since Ive signed one that I have forgotten the relevance of the doc.

I asked the agency what they recommended but they wouldn't tell me. I really can't see any reason to opt out. The agency kept badgering me for an answer "in or out"?

I pointed out that I already had the contract offer (direct with the client, but had to contract via an agency) before I even spoke to the agency so I understand that it was too late to opt out even it I'd wanted to. They woudn't be drawn on the matter.

I eventually told them that after careful consideration, MyLTD had decided to "do nothing". They accepted this.

                      Thanks for the replies...

Ah I have had a frustrating day atleast the sun was shining... so what can I report.

The jobcentre meeting was pretty much useless... they didnt even serve tea or biscuits but I may be sly and get them to pay for my travel to the interview next week.... They even mentioned having a discretionary fund and they funded for a lawnmower for one person as she was starting a business mowing lawns, someone travel for the first month, shoes...

I then went shopping and spent most of my JSA on the weekly shop. Came back and found the plumber who had let us down twice had not turned up again! Right time to get another plumber...

I called the agent who kept swinging me along for a PM role at a petroleum giant and after some pressure put on him to stop playing me and say how it was... I was told I didnt make the shortlist... grrr - I thought I was made for that role as well. He said he'd provide feedback on why by the end of the week - I don't hold my breath

On with the search tmrw... but I also promised the gf I'll take her out... choices, choices, choices.... where the heck are the job offerings - is it only me but has this week been pretty quiet on PM and PMO postings
