.NET Contacts in London, Current market status

    Hi,

I'm looking to come to London to look for a contract as a .NET Developer, I have experience working on contracts in Australia 5 years total experience.

    Question:
What is the current market like? is their large unemployment? or do most people manage to find a job, its just a little slow...

I'll be coming over on the "Youth mobility Visa"

Any help is on the situation is much appreciated, I heard stories that "British jobs are for British people" so I need to way up my chance of finding work.

    Thanks is advance,
    John

If working under that visa is legal, go for it.

The contract market is rubbish if you don't have banking experience, just be aware of that...

In finance (you need at least 3 years exp in the industry):
Back/Middle - no real time experience, you can expect 450-550
        Front - with real time exp, client-server - 550-600+
        Market is excellent atm

I don't know about the other industries in London

I am looking to break into finance .net dev position. I have 6y as consultant from big tech vendor and it is though without finance background.
It is easier if you target your previous sector. Also consider that skills required are below above average.

I'll have a legal work Visa that is no problem,

I don't have banking experience... I have about 4 months in finance... I just hope that's enough to get me through.

            Thanks,

              LOTS of Finance .NET roles,

very few non-finance...and LOTS of competition.

If you have really good experience and know your stuff you should be ok though.

rates are abit rubbish in non-finance too.

Impossible to get finance roles without a few years, I have a couple short banking contracts and no bites when I was looking.
