I'm a Brit living and working in Germany. I am VAT registered in Germany as a freelance IT Consultant and am liable to pay my taxes, etc. here.
I like the idea of taking the occasional 2-3 month contract back in the UK, but am not sure how easy this would be in practice.
Having taken advice from my accountant, there is no problem for me to do this, but I would need to return home regularly to show commitment to Germany being my home, and I would need to continue paying all my taxes in Germany.
What I'm clueless about is the UK side. I am assuming I would need;
1. A UK bank account, that money could be paid into. Would have to be possible to open as a non-resident, and ideally be cheap for me to transfer money back to my German Euro account. Any recommendations?
2. Work through either; my own Limited Company, Umbrella Company or PAYE through the Agency. I'm not looking for anything that will make me liable to pay taxes in the UK though, as I have to pay them in Germany. Is there another option, or a best out of these for an expat?
3. Find work.
Have I missed anything?
Any advice will be gratefully received. Many thanks!
