Mobile phone technology.Originally posted by Stan.goodvibes View Postif you work that hard then how come you are still up this late?
Surprisingly, we can all log in to this site from home too.
Nobody in recruitment goes to bed before midnight (OK I've made that up).
When you've been working from 7am to 10pm, it takes a good few hours to wind down - which doesn't help sleep.
How on earth can you use a comeback of "how come you're up this late", when A) You're awake, and B) The time anyone goes to bed, has toss all to do with how hard they work?

Sorry I assumed everyone on here knows that I am currently in Seeedney Australia, so your midnight was my lunchtime.Originally posted by The Agents View View PostHow on earth can you use a comeback of "how come you're up this late", when A) You're awake, and B) The time anyone goes to bed, has toss all to do with how hard they work?
I have a couple of good friends who are agents, both of whom I respect. They do work very hard, but at the same time they both earn as much if not more than me. While I don't begrudge it sometimes seems a little unjustified, and even worse considering that they are only getting a percentage of what the agency receives.
I have noticed over my 15 years of dealing with agents that on the whole the contractors are the ones who have been to uni, skilled up, got the work experience, and are the ones actually providing the service, and on the whole agents and agencies are the ones who really lack any discern-able skills (sorry it's true in most cases) and are simply seeking to exploit the clients reluctance to deal directly with contractors.
It's clearly a lucrative business because agencies are always springing up, and are often poorly managed and peopled by chavs.
You might say that it's just a few bad apples spoiling the bunch but from my experience it's actually only rarely that you come across an agent that actually gives a toss about the client and/or contractor and isn't just about their own bottom line regardless of how unprofessional they will be to get a commission.
Just my perspective...Last edited by Stan.goodvibes; 25 February 2010, 22:13.Comment

and what is the difference between you and the agent exactly? You are a wealthy privileged individual who doesnt have to do the hard yards of hustling for a living. you have been born bright , have been well educated and by sheer luck have fallen into a world of privilege, high pay and little responsibility. You work from one company to another never having to worry about the ethics of your paymasters (banks, retailers, insurance companies, manufacturers) yet you have the gall to pass judgement on others who are less priviliged than you.Originally posted by Stan.goodvibes View PostSorry I assumed everyone on here knows that I am currently in Seeedney Australia, so your midnight was my lunchtime.

I know I shouldn't respond and sink myself to your level but you honestly talk $h1te.
What is it with the word 'gall' I appreciate 9 times out of 10 you read from a script but live a little and deviate from the plan will you? You never know it may actually lead to you using a larger vocabulary.Comment

Funny - I was reading it with a female voice in my head tooOriginally posted by weemster View PostI thought she was a woman

I do agree - those that give a to55 are generally few and far between.
I am skilled at what I do, however my qualifications are in human psychology, which I then apply to the sales industry.
In terms of my industry - I am niche, and non IT too, which has meant I have become a part of it. I'm a quick solution for busy senior individuals. I work by not only placing people, but managing the transfer of their skills, developing the team around them, whilst they deliver what the client needs.
Now I accept that I may be a rare entity on that side - but to be honest, some of the views on this site are astounding. Of course there are underhand tactics which go on - but to be honest, its far less dishonest than the general sales arena (specifically IT sales) - I did IT sales for 9 months - right up to the point that I saw a paper bag get slipped to a client, containing 10 grand. I handed my notice in the moment I got back to the office, and literally fell into this job.
I'm fortunate in that I love working with, and understanding people.....although I have to say, I hate having to try and get this across to the non believers in the industry!

Also do you know what happens to whistle blowers? If they are lucky they get told to shut up and ignored, if they are unlucky their lives are made hell.Originally posted by downsouth View Posti'd be amazed if this wasnt against some code of conduct
