    Security Clearance, again!

******* grips my tulip this. Had LA International on the phone earlier this morning 'Are you available for work?'

    'Yes I am.'

    'Do you have current SC?'

'I have had SC in the past but its not current right now. I have absolutely no doubt I'll have no problem getting this again.'

'Oh, SC has to be current so we cant consider you.'

'Hold on, the Vetting Agency state contractors should not be discounted for SC jobs just because they dont have current clearance. There's no reason why I shouldnt be considered and put forward.'

'Its a requirement to have existing clearance as the client cant wait.'

'So when is the job due to start?'

'Er, not for about another 4 weeks.'

'Then that's plenty of time to get clearance so, what's the problem?'

'Sorry, client says its a must have.' Click!

Its ******* tulip. They just get around the toothless VA's 'directive' by saying its a rush job so there isnt time to get it sorted.

Oh and it seems you have to have SC even to work at the DWP now!
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

Nearly as good as my experience recently - a role started in 9 weeks, yet they wouldn't even consider candidates with previous SC clearance who could apply again.

No point in commenting upon it really, I just mentioned how obtuse it was to the agent.

If you were any good you'd be cleared. The fact is you ain't so you aren't and that's that.

Yeah but Bolshie is working on Reception as a temp not a contractor and he will have to have access to lot's of important telephone numbers.

You probably applied for an admin level role on the DWP main system and database including free range on some fraud monitoring systems. WTF do you need clearance for that you numpty!!

Depends where you are working, the general offices dotted around the country and the Longbenton site only need BC, to work at the offices in London, based at Parliments Sq, you will need SC

I think you need SC for the datacenter's as well...not too sure though...

Some of the roles where they are stating they need security clearance you don't.

Some pimp rung me up about about a client site I worked before. He stated you needed SC clearance to work on the site and I pointed out politely that you don't need any form of clearance.

The pimp was like and said that's what the client wants.

If you get it in writing / see the advert, then you should take a screenshot / PDF and send it to vettinggroup@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk - not sure what they do with it, but they are meant to be monitoring (and possibly taking action?) against agencies and departments that aren't following the Cabinet Office guidelines.

My partner works for an electrical company in the construction industry. Sometimes their electricians need clearance for government jobs. They just get it. No big deal.

So why is it a big deal in IT?
