Security vetting advice

Hello, am a humble plug and play rollout bod and have been contracting on and off for about five years. Recently been out for five months. Obviously dont earn the same or work in the same environments as some of you Black belts on this forum (know enough not to need a Must Consult Somebody Else Qual) but have a potential problem. Am going to be offered a contract with people I have worked for before, but this time a full 10 year vett is needed. Have never been a bad lad, have a senior member within HMCE that usually provides character refs and have known him for fifteen years. The problem is that I have just sat back without claiming off the state and rested. Am still a person that believes N.I contributions will never provide me with a pension, so have not bothered with them when 'resting'.
Now I guess that I have a problem. Did not claim off of the state, but have rested for about two years in the last Ten. Am happy to let people know this, but fear a Catch 22 coming on. Any of you know much about the 10year vetting

The DV proces will worry about an absolute proof of your identity, an absolute understanding of your political allegiances and an assessment of your ability to be blackmailed or otherwise coerced into helping the bad boys. Minor lapses, including criminal convictions, are assessed but can be disregarded if they are not significant. A DV vet costs around £10k these days, so they have the resources to do it proerly and they are unlikely to make mistakes.

Put it the other way, DV will guarantee you work and will add £100 a day to your rate. All you have to do is be totally honest with them.

Just a side note - DV has a backlog of about 4 months at the moment so you may have a wait on your hands!

sc 5 years for contract

Have you had S/C before? Rememeber if you contract you'll only be granted 5 years clearance, 10 years if perm, your employer should know this - talk with their security officer....

Ermmm... Employer?? What's one of those?

Anyway, in practice a contractor's SC lasts one year after the end of the contract after which you're back to square one - although most of the clearance people will reinstate it pretty quickly, you still have to do the forms and the proof of identity bit.


DV lasts 10 years, partly because the initial checks and assessment are really good, partly because they keep checking (although they don't tell you that...)
