FWIW, it's not a smart arse comment - in most, if not all situations, it's a fact.

However, if the work is very different from what you are meant to be doing (and I don't know enough about support to really know what is a reasonable expectation of a support analyst is), and you don't want to be there, then go.

For future reference, though, you might have been better off completing the day and then breaking your leg / putting your back out on the way home / having a serious bereavement.

        Lol..

Seriously, the unboxing incident was just the straw that broke the camels back. It was really all the lack of information and organisation that frustrated the hell out of me before that.

Anyways... I'm going to roll one up and have a glass of Rioja. Merry xmas or whatever it is you all do...

        Cheers.

I started a few weeks ago on a 3 month contract and was annoyed and disappointed with the role I ended up with.

Stupidly, I signed a contract where I couldn't give notice for the first 3 months and had to carry out the full three months.

But in my defence, the work that I ended up doing was different to my role. I tried to just keep going without getting too worked up but finally had enough today and blew a gasket today and telling them that it wasn't what I signed up for and then left.

I'm a bit worried now and wondering what could happen because I broke the contract.

Do I have any leg to stand on considering the different work that they were getting me to do?

          Thanks.
Ask for a role definition and terms of reference. In the mean time turn away any work you "suspect" is not in keeping with your role. If the role definition is not quick in coming you can turn this to your advantage in that they are failing to set your expectations and this is not what you were sold at interview.

An awkward contractor is a "gone" contractor. On the other hand you might get them to wake up and they might treat you with some respect. Stick up for yourself.

Thanks mate. I'll take that on board. I'm learning the tricks I never knew before to play this "game" of contracting.

FWIW I would not have walked. I would take their crap and take their money.

I wouldn't renew if I couldn't stand the contract but you are already 1/4 of the way through so how hard would it have been to see it out and not create a potential headache for yourself?

Good luck with getting a new gig.

Have to agree. I've done some tulip roles over the years. If they are bad I simply use the time as paid time to search for my next role. If it comes up before the end of the current role then I 'negotiate' an exit.

                i.e. make one up!
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

                I preferred version 1!

i know unboxing pcs feels like a step backwards, but if the role pays ok...what difference does it make...

I am a PM, we were short of people so I pitched in a unboxed some PCs....didn't bother me as long as I got paid...and the guys appreciated me rolling up my sleeves rather then just standing there and telling them what to do...

the rate i got was very high for unboxing pcs...

as for the b*tch, what's wrong with that......fixing a printer or sorting out people without Pcs....is all the same - you're there to fix a problem....who are you to care about their company efficiency, you'r there as a contractor, do the minimum and take the dough....

To be fair mate, you sound quite conscientious, like me at the beginning....always want to do right....but trust me after a couple of contracts, you'll soon harden up and just make sure you take the money.

Anyway, sounds like you're much happier with the decision you made, so have a merry xmas...

I'm the same. A project I managed went live a few weeks ago and I was unboxing PC's, removing rubbish, doing a bit of support and basically doing everything I needed to do to get the job done and help the team I had.

I don't think your argument that they are disorganised can hold much weight as most busniesses are like that at some point but to me unboxing PC's is the role of an "IT Support Analyst".
