A year ago I would have agreed with everyone else that your a Cad and a Bounder who is giving us all a bad name and you should be flogged for your actions, however in the current market no one in there right mind is going to turn down 6 months over 15 days and anyone who says he would is lying.

Ok so your gonna get grief as you had already signed but while the rates are poor and contracts scarce its everyman for himself, I would not be losing sleep over it

Got offered a 15 day contract , 2 weeks before xmas, 1 week after. accepted signed and emailed the contract back.
Late friday got offered another contract 6 months, more money, team leadership, greendfield.
Accepted this, and email the first agent saying i could no longer do the 15 days. They are now threatening legal action.

Do they have a leg to stand on?
Whats the worst case they could get?

Any c# developers want 15 days in birmingham to help me out?

      thanks
Just tell them someone in the family has died. Unless you are a sockpuppet.

            +1

Totally agree. Let's face it, in the current market, everyone is out to screw contractors. Nice to see a contractor doing it the other way round for a change. I know that after the 7 months I spent on the bench this year - most of that time wasted by bullsh---ing agents and clients - I wouldn't be walking away from a 6 month'er for just two weeks worth of work. But then again, having now just started "year 21" as a contractor, I'm far from professional - unlike some of the saints on this thread who posted replies.

As was mentioned before - do both. Get the 6m one put back 2 weeks.

I had a similar one a few years ago. I was offered a 4 week contract and then got offered a 6m one which eventauuly led to about 4 years work.

I called the 4w agency and explained that I had to look after my family first. Had it been a 2 week gig then I would have looked to start the longer one later
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

              I preferred version 1!

Happens often enough the other way round. Once turned up for minimum three months urgent contract along with 9 others and we were all out the door the next week. Fortunately I hadn't turned down somewhere else but some had. One bloke turned up a place I was at and told to leave, there was no work after all.

                      WHS^

Break a leg, tell them you have swine flu?

I'll be off like a shot at the first opportunity that arises and if that means telling a porky to negate the 1 week notice then so be it. I can't survive much longer on my current rate, in my mind it's their fault as I have asked them to match the market rates that they're paying new contractors.
