unscrupulous agents tried to contact my manager

I'm nearing the end of my contract (with no possibility of renewal ... so know will be on bench for a while) and had been looking for pastures green for a week now. So posted and shot-off my CV to a few Jobserve ads. Since then my manager has called me in on 2 occassions saying - some recruiting agents had called him in the week with offers of their best candidates and what rates are they paying to current contractors.
What's surprising is that inspite of not putting in my manager's name on CV how did these agents reach my manager. Think that they got it from the company's name on the CV.
Do you guys think removing the company's name from CV would have helped as I do not see how else would these agents come to know my manager.

NEVER EVER give a current ClientCo's name on your CV. EVER.

The unscrupulous bastards will lie to your current manager saying how you have been bitching about the place and intend to walk.

Edit: use "a city bank", "a global chutney spoon manufacturing corporation", "a government agency", "a local authority", "a dollymop farming co-operative".

      Yes.

Are you really that naive? Have you put your full address and bank details on there too?

Good grief - what's the world coming to?

Not really, I know not to include the company's address. I'm sure its just from the company's name they were able to make out. Cause I spoke to the receptionist who too confirmed that she's been receiving a lot of calls ("Could I speak to the XXX Manager") from recruitment agencies.
But the million quid question is can't we even diligently include the company's name in a CV .... to emphasize industry experience? without the agents sharking for leads?

Company's address is the least hardest to work out - www.company.com -> ABout Us -> Office Locations

No you can't , not until you've actually finished the contract.

Bit of a catch 22 situation. The problem is that it can also look dodgy if you put "working somewhere, doing something, but can't tell you where/what" on a CV - especially if you've done a long stint on a contract.

Just explain it to the manager. If he's clued up, I'm sure he can deal with it. Being able to bat away sales calls is part of every managers job.

The fact that you are definately leaving makes it easier. You are fully justified in pimping yourself around - and agents calls to ClientCo are just a consequence of dodgy agents, not of yourself. If the manager can't deal with that - that's his problem.

They got the managers name by getting through to (e.g.) the IT department and getting lucky when a young permie picked up the phone. The pimp will demand to speak to the person in charge of recruitment and, if they are not available, will demand to know the name of the person. The young lad/lass will want to be helpful (cos they've been told about customer service) and will tell them. It's our job to re-educate them (in the nicest possible way).

Or, they phoned the company's reception number. Then you have:

-an agent who's been trained, and whose job it is, to find out the right person's name

                    talking to

-a receptionist whose job is to direct callers to the right person.
