Should I dye my hair to get a job ?

I know there is a severe recession etc but I have never had a problem getting jobs until last 2 years. I didn't even get any interviews for a 3/4 month period over the Summer.

I then recently re-vamped my CV and took out all roles except for last 10 years. I also removed any references to any dates for degrees etc.

Since then I have had a lot more calls and am getting interviews. However I went to my first of these interviews earlier this week and came away thinking it had all gone swimmingly. Heard back today I didn't get it, according to the agent(who I know and trust) they said they were happy with me and my technical skills but there was another candidate who was more "enthusiastic" and he got the job.

Call me paranoid but this sounds a bit to me like a euphemism for "younger". I started getting grey hairs in my twenties which I think makes me look older than I am. Does the panel think dying my hair back to it's original colour would help me get a gig ?

Nah, don't dye your hair. Wasn't meant to be perhaps, it's just hard to feel your confidence ebbing away I guess. Chin up

Depends on what you do. Some roles looking older is a benefit, other roles looking younger is a benefit.

If you think that it's your grey hair then dye it. However dying hair and keeping it up is a hassle......

Speaking as a bloke:

I dyed my hair earlier this year, that was quickly followed by 3 failed interviews which ruined my 100% success rate. It might have been a coincidence but then I've always played more on my real world experience than technical skill.
When the grey came back I secured a gig.

Needless to say, I'm reluctant to dye it again!

I don't know whether or not being a bit grey directly affects your chances, but dying your hair might make you feel more confident - and that can come over at interviews (and in other walks of life) too. Why not try one of the off the shelf semi-permanents? They last about 6-8 weeks, and fade naturally, so you don't have the hassle of keeping it up if it's not for you.
