1) I can actually give them references from loads of clients and they can read them directly online.
2) They don't get a phone number or email address of a previous client to harass. They also can't ask for contact details under woolly pretences to get a reference as they already have the reference (see 1).

Good try, but the name is all they need, company email addresses are mostly easy to guess ie. first.last@client.com or some variation, or just phoning the company and asking to be put through.
