Pimp says the market is buoyant!

So I was talking to a pimp at a well known agency about a BA role at an IB and he remarked that "the market is buoyant right now"

Did I miss the September surge, or the October eh onslaught??

Has it picked up when I wasn't looking?

Typical, it's like when you pop to the loo for a quick pee and a goal gets scored in the big match!!

What are peoples experiences of late, is it getting better?

    Cheers,
    Alan

    pimp is deluded.

after a long break i jumped back on the jobserve gravy train and there is a noticeable lack of hits. just 18 contracts posted today up to midday and only 3 perm! searching on the microsoft web skill set and more generic skills (sql sql server xml etc)

    seems pretty quiet.

banking contracts still seem well paid ... must be all that public money proping up the finance industry

I guess he has a raft of roles to fill so he thinks its boom town without actually peeking over his little cubicle and looking at the world out there. Him being busy does not equate to boyant.

Saying that we could also launch in to the discussion around a pimp actually saying something truthful or correct.

Got to say this is certainly not my experience. Might differ from bank to bank but I can name a few that certainly don't fall in to this.

They been saying since the end of last year that "Its very quite" and yet there are still contract roles around mind you not as many as prior to the recession plus the supply and demand factor is also effect.

In my experience the agencies have also created this false sense of belief. For example; You speak with someone in 1 agency he/she will say "Oh its very quite" whilst another agency might say "Oh we are very very busy" at the same time if you speak to someone else in the same agency he/she may say its quite.

I have been on the bench for more than 5 months and have noticed a big pick up in activity over the last 2 weeks. Now getting quite a few calls from agencies and they are actually calling me back when I send them my CV via Jobsites. The September surge definitely did not happen, it was completely dead for me, but it seems to have pushed over into October instead, fingers firmly crossed !

However contract rates are about 20% down and same for permie roles.

Agents are trained to be optimistic. If the Russians dropped a nuke on the UK they would ring you up and say how wonderfully warm the weather is.
Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone
