Does anyone know what effect having dual nationality (British by birth, Irish by descent : both passports) has on applying for SC? This is for a non-MOD project.

If you've been resident five years, it shouldn't make any difference at all. That doesn't mean it won't, of course!Blog? What blog...?

Understand, always been a UK resident so no issues there.Originally posted by malvolio View PostIf you've been resident five years, it shouldn't make any difference at all. That doesn't mean it won't, of course!Comment

The fact that you have dual nationality should not automatically disqualify you.
However they will certainly assess your other nationality to see if they think it presents a problem. To be blunt, a dual Iranian/UK citizen will likely get more questions asked than a dual Aussie/UK citizen.
Irish shouldn't be an issue, but the recent Real IRA activities will make some vetters a bit twitchy, but that will depend on the area you are working on.Comment

Myself and my father are both from Northern Ireland. When I went through SC clearance it took a month longer than everyone else - I can only assume because of "The Connection"Comment
