After 3 months on the bench...and the quietest time ever in my sector, decided I'd take a year or two in a permy role to keep me busy, do some training etc... Just had 2 2nd interviews, waiting to hear back....

And then last couple of days, 4 calls about separate contracts in my specialism...

Bloody typical! buses all at once etc... Was just in the mindset that a bit of permy time might be nice and easy - albeit looking at the money was a bit disappointing...

Take whichever job you are offered first. If that happens to be permie, then you have the benefit of being on a probation period of 1 week. If a contract then appears after you start, you are available relatively quickly. Job done - you've built your own job security

rsingh is right, take the first offer, these days even the clients don't know what they want, look at me, the agent promised me the whole world if I accepted (simply because they new I had another offer already) so what I did? obviously I turned down the perm offer, got the contract, lasted a week and I'm back on the bench, reading all your posts (which are remarkably good I have to say!)

Going with the permy role (the first offered)...normally have a good conversion rate in my specialist area - if the rate is right prob 75% - but it can be a narrow area.

The contract roles sound a bit manic...one in Europe (so bit of a trek), one which sounds like a mess of a project (2 PM's been canned already) - and they don't seem to know how or when they want to interview...arse and elbow spring to mind!

Interestingly, have always found company's that faff about when making an offer, tend to reflect this behavior when trying to work there - can't organise anything!
