Anyone working/worked in Cambridge?

Fairly interesting role in Cambridge I'm talking to agent about. It's apparently pretty central to the station (is that in the centre?) and I wondered what the city is like... I visited once as a teenager and it was pretty but that's all I can recall.

MrN worked in cambridge for the last 8 years.

Though we don't live there, cheaper to buy a place in east northants and if you can live with a 30 min drive?

Cambridge itself is very nice, pretty good social life.

Would not be looking to relocate permanently, commute weekly from the north-east. So in order to minimise the additional messing about I'd want to be in the centre, walking/cycling distance. Is Cambridge one of the university towns which is very bike-oriented?

The station is not in the centre but there are some very good bus services. Should not be a problem finding accmodation. Have they told you where the client site is? If it's in the science park thats quite a way out but again good bus services etc. Never managed to work in Cambridge but lived here all my life.

I don't have the address, but I'm told the site is a few hundred metres from the station (which I'll round up to 1/2 mile), I was the one who assumed that meant city-centre.

The station isn't really in the centre, it's about 15 minutes walk away. It's a great town. Loads of students during term time, but they tend to stick to the colleges and same few pubs so they're easy to avoid (or find). Loads of foreign students during the summer. Mainly an upmarket town with some really nice bits, and brilliant for walks/cycle rides out into the villages and countryside.

Its a lovely town, try to go there about once a year just as a bit of a weekend break. Have been going there since my wife was a student there about 12 years ago - I hold some fond memories of the place.

The station is a fair walk from the main shopping area and taking a car into the town is a bit of a pain. Lots of people tend to use bikes to get around - quite quaint.

Cambridge is one of the best places in the country, huge amount of High tech companies all around, proper posh and foreign students everywhere, loads of history, social life, and old style pubs, and the shopping's not bad either although they do get a lot of tourists in the summer.

You should have no problem finding reasonable accommodation due to the student population and yes there are bikes everywhere, as others have said if you need to get to the outskirts the bus service is really good, it has to be due to the fact its a nightmare to drive into especially if you have to use the A14 like i do when i have contracted there, most of the contracts I have worked there have always paid a better rate than other cities around.

several years back there was a big issue seller who stood outside sainsbury's, his sales pitch was done in the style of a Shakespearean actor, he sold loads of copies.
