Orange - T-Mobile UK merger..Impact on contrcat jobs..?

Looks like we are going from bad to worst now...Orange & T-Mobile plans to merge in UK ..surely will have huge impact on contractors (& permies...). Any one witnessed similar merger in the past how severe was/will be the impact..??

Say Orange uses different Billing/Alarm Mgmt/Problem Mgmt/CRM/Call centre software/Order Mgmt/Provisioning/retail software/web apps/server software/network equips compared to T-Mobile ( I mean different vendors) it need not have huge impact, right..??

    OR

will they decide to have complete overhaul to migrate to the systems/vendors of major player (here Orange) to have uniform platform..?? If that's the case short term people with Orange systems experience will be on demand right.?? Though different vendor products are doing same function companies prefer experienced people in that exact product right..?

    Any thoughts..???

Mergers and acquisitions are good news for contractors, loads of systems to be merged, it means lucrative contracts that goes on for several years!!

But yeh not good for permies.

Same mergers have been going on in the financial sector for the last few years with system / business/process/HR integration... keep us in a job. Love those mergers, keep them coming.

In the short term there will be a spike for contractors as they need to integrate the systems, later on they'll get rid of the contractors and a few existing permies.

Is that what you wanted to hear?

They won't GET RID of contractors, contractors are supposed to be on a contract, when the job is done they should move on, the term GET RID is totally wrong here!!

Who is principal outsourcer for these companies..?
I know Orange work with companies like Torry Harris (THBS) & Caritor (Keane)...Not sure how extensive is outsourcer's involvement..? May not be as extensive as Vodafone - EDS I believe..

Never heard abt outsourcer with T-Mobile...?
Any one got information on this..?? How extensive is outsourcer's involvement..?

Orange use EDS to do their infrastructure stuff, desktop/network etc, acording to friend of mine who is a permie there, not sure about the software side of things. They outsourced it a couple of years ago to try and save the cash monies. It's all about the cash monies.

Hot topic around the campus this morning, plenty of broken french being practised

It'll take a good few years of 'merging' & 'collaboration' before the affects are felt by us contractors on site.
How it'll all come together will be one BIG head-ache with so many parties 'involved' particularly the ran deal with MBNL ( 3/TMo ran share ) & the new core network swap currently in play. So in the short-term the good guys on-site will be around for a few years yet, but the permies are all of a 'dither' about the the long-term future.
