If my new contract is based in London for two days a week with the other 3 in Portsmouth does the team think that I should claim travel expenses for the London - Portsmouth trip? How would the tax man view it?

Absolutely claim for all parts of the journey. I'm in a contract that takes me to Wales for 3 days a week. Definitely
I had a contract for a major consultancy where I had to occasionally fly around Europe and further at times. As well as my contract rate, I was paid full travel, accommodation (5 star sometimes) and food costs.Comment

If your previous contract was two years in inverness, then you should claim home to London and home to Portsmouth.
Beyond that, get embroiled in the two year rule, 40% etc.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

You can probably claim from your ltd co to travel toboth sites.
If one of these locations is your main place of work for the contract then your ltd co can probably claim travel to the second site from the client.
Look and see what your contract says about expenses.Comment
