Reading the privacy statement it says:-

Sharing your information
We want to provide as full a service as possible and support you in the development of your career. Therefore, your information may be accessible by our associated companies, subject to strict security controls. We would only send your information out of the EEA for purposes relevant to recruitment. If we do so, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that a receiving party has an adequate level of data protection.

Your information will not be forwarded to any parties outside our group (with the exception of our clients, agents who process data on our behalf and successors in title to our business) without your consent. Such third parties may use your data to send you information and marketing relevant to recruitment and your general professional interests.

If you have any requests concerning these uses of your information please contact data-audit@progressiverecruitment.com.

And the email bounces...... So they can put me on their database without asking, share my personal details with their clients, and I can't do anything about it?

That's right, they send out your CV to clients without your permission. They've been doing this since 2000 at least.

Write a letter to the data controller at progressive. If that is not answered, inform the Information Commissioners Office.

Heard from them many times by email or telephone but never resulted in any work.
About a year ago I had a call from a young enthusiastic chap there who told me he was forming a "special list" for preferred contractors. He then proceeded to ask me a few questions about my skills and finally stated "congratulations, you have now made it onto the list". Found it all quite hillarious and unsurprisingly never heard from him again but still get the occassional email from them, usually for totally unrelated jobs.

I also heard they make their profits from the difference between cash borrowed [loans] to pay contractors with until the end client pays up and they pay off the loan

when I first read the subject / title of this thread, I took it as relating to some sort of statement that they're going under or something.

... gutted.

I do owe them a debt of gratitude though - if it wasn't for progressive, i'd probably have retained some faith in the conduct and standards of recruitment agencies, which would have clouded my judgement.

They sent me someone's CV today. Isn't that nice? Didn't ask for it, but they sent it anyway.

I had to mail that address once and tell them to remove my CV as I could no longer take any more of the "In order that we do not send your CV to clients you have already applied for please tell us about any interviews you have had recently" mails.

Some throbber called 'Ricky Martin' used to phone me up every few weeks with the 2 references crap. The sad bastard never took the hint.
