    Recruitment Agency Fees

I want to understand how these guys get paid - Do they get a cut of the monthly fee or a lump sum at the outset?

The reason I ask is to ensure that it is in their interest to keep you working and not just sign up at a gig and forget about you then.

Anyone know? Also if people have an indication of how much they get I would be very interested in this

But thats just because I am nosy

It's very simple. If you want a contract, you must give the agent five times the daily rate up front, in a brown envelope. Note - they' ll never ask for this, they'll talk about margins and stuff, but that's just to keep the tax man happy - the rate they quote is actually the rate the client pays. Now, once you've given the agent the money, you'll get an interview, and if you do well in that you'll get the gig. You want the agent to want to keep you working, so from the £200 a day (or whatever) you're getting, you must give him at least 20% to keep him happy. Again, this must be in cash to keep the tax man none the wiser. Usually, we make these ex-gratia payments once a week. Some agents are awfully decent, and only want to be paid once a month.

Don't miss a payment though, as since this is the black economy, credit control involves large men with baseball bats.

Why are all posts on this forum met with such patronization?

This is a simple question from a new joiner.

If you dont want to help dont post but to pollute the thread with crap like trolling is rather unhelpful.

Do you get a high from talking down to people?

Is nt a forum meant to encourage questions and answers and be a shared community?

Have you thought of doing any basic searches? Better still why not ask the agency how they pay you.

If every new joiner asked simple questions then the forum would become clogged up.

And if you expect to be spoon fed you aren't going to do very well running your own company : try being a permie.

Ask a sensible question and there are lots of people who will be happy to help you.

I have asked the agent who has told me - I want to make sure that the information that was provided by him was correct. Is this such a bad thing?

That doesn't ring true. If that were the case your post would not have read like this:

The reason I ask is an agent told me they take a percentage all the time you are with them, no matter how many years that is. Is that true?
You are giving out two impressions:
                  1) You have not done the most basic research before making this huge decision about how you are going to generate your personal income;
                  2) You are just winding us up, i.e. trolling.

That is why you are getting ribbed.
My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.

Don't take that as gospel. Some agencies will try and get 100%.
