That was one of the first things I did say and led to my last renewal. I must be on my way thinking like a freelancerOriginally posted by malvolio View PostI didn't say don't do it, it's a commercial decision. All I did was point out the difference between freelancer and employee. If you are thinking like a freelancer, your reaction would be "Sure, but what's it worth? What about my existing workload? And can I have a new schedule to cover it please".
I doubt I'd be able to wing a new schedule esp when I have the best part of 2 mnths to train someone however one can always try. Time to look for a new gig me thinks..

Firstly I think you have been very fortunate to hang in there for as long as you have. Most other contractors there were out by the end of March.
Secondly, it is unlikely you'll get them to change their minds about renewal. The Team Orders have come down from the top and they are desperately trying to cover their tracks using mindless cost cutting to try and hide the fact that they screwed up the revenue accounting a few years ago.
I would notionally agree to help but not try too hard. I know exactly what you mean about the 'resource pool' so it's unlikely you'll get CVs that are a good yet alone exact match. The chances are these resources will do a token 4/6 months on the job before rebenching themselves voluntarily. This leaves the remaining permies on the team stressed and overloaded and the clients so p1ssed off with the supplier that they are taking the business off them at the earliest opportunity. There's at least two huge contracts I know of that are going this way because the company is now run by accountants.Guy Fawkes - "The last man to enter Parliament with honourable intentions."Comment

Not advice as such, but if I was in your position I would be inclined to the pragmatic view. I'd be as helpful as I could in the recruitment process. I would make sure I got linkedin recommendations from everybody I possibly could. And I would keep an eye on all those CVs coming in and build up a nice list of possible future client companies.

Update...
Been told they have identified a candidate who I had thought was a low skill match however they must be desperate as been told I need to start thinking about handover for the next 2 weeks. I know it is the wrong business decision but I will be professional and do the best handover I can.
Thanks for the note about linkedin I may just add a few contacts on my list however am cautious of the agency folks snooping and using the leads!Never Never Never give upComment

LinkedIn- I always refuse links offered from pimps. But if you look in the control settings for your account, you can hide your contacts list so that other contacts cannot see it. What I did was set up a dummy account at LinkedIn so that I could view my real account to assess what others could see when I changed my settings on my main account, to be sure.Originally posted by MrHelpful View PostUpdate...

Absolutely. They only hassle your network. And then there's the agencies with groups on there (Parity?) for 'current and past contractors'. They must think we were born yesterday.Originally posted by Fred Bloggs View PostLinkedIn- I always refuse links offered from pimps.

I'm torn by that - I know what Richard means but I belong to groups that I suspect also has the likes of Parity on, and I don't want Group members who are not direct contacts to be able to strip my network.
Is there any setting that can prevent this from happening?"I can put any old tat in my sig, put quotes around it and attribute to someone of whom I've heard, to make it sound true."
