"I'll send you the full job spec in an email"

I get at least one call a week from an agent who talks to me for 5 minutes about a contract, then promises to send a full job spec in an email - only I never actually receive the email.

Is this some kind of cunning pimp trick that I've not yet got my head around? Has anybody else experienced the same thing?

Had it several times, generally from Hays

The pimp has pumped you for all the info you can give him and now you are no use to him as he hasnt got any real jobs to offer...

Whenever I suspect one of these types of calls, I usually ask the pimp why he thinks Im an ideal match for the 'role' hes talking about, call usually ends in a few seconds after it is clear that he has never seen my CV and does not know who hes talking to....

        Me too.

I usually never get any contact details form them: "Hi I'm Mmmnbl bhmmb from mbmmmfl is now OK to talk..."

A request for contact details gets "It'll all be in the email".

I get about one a day of these.

Yep when I've been benched I get a few of them. Never come to much.

...one other possibility is that they are making an advanced call to you based on a verbal conversation or whatever they just had with client co. The gig never comes to anything, and they never get the full spec from client co so never send it to you...

+1. These sometimes happen when the pimp is finalising the shortlist for submissions to the client

If you fail to convince the pimp over the phone that you should be added to the list - he'll / she'll move on to the next person on their list.

Yep I had this happen a few months ago, and again 'supposedly' from Hays IT... in the end I cut the last one short and said I was only willing to discuss my situation once I'd seen a job spec. If the conversation is about 'your current situation' and carries on past the "I'm available in x days/weeks" then suspect it's a fishing trip.
