Would it not look dodgy in the eyes of HRMC?

I've never taken divs more than 2-3 times a year as I was under this impression.

Once or twice. Depends how greedy the director is feeling...

          2/3 times a year.

          Is that the right answer?

You can take divs as many times as you want, as long as you do the paper work.

It was the first year of my company, so need the regular money, but will slow down to less now.

Truly you can take them every day if you feel so inclined, provided the parperwork is properly in order. There is a large body of opinion that says "ooh hmrc might see that as salary". It ballcocks.

If you are in a position of being investigated, frequency of dividends is the least of your problems.

BTW how do HMRC know about the frequency until they have started an enquiry and you have to provide the paperwork in response to a specific question?

Is there anymore paperwork required other than declaring them in the Final Year accounts and Self-Assessment?

                    1) Tax voucher

                    2) Minutes of shareholder meeting when the dividend was declared.

Seek professional advise since I am not qualified to give this but that's what I produce.
