    Potential opportunity/advice needed...

    Chaps -

I have in recent years done the 'IT support' to a friend in North London with his own small business. He currently has 3 laptops, 2 printers and that's about it. However I no longer have the time to do this and he also needs to move towards a different approach to his IT needs.

As I see it he needs to do the following:

    1) Clean up and reinstall all software on his laptops (he's always getting viruses) - will probably need to change user permissions so he can't install anything
    2) Move his email from the ISP to something like 1and1 hosted email
    3) Institute a proper back up system - I currently have him using Mozy online but it needs to be more robust
    4) Look at installing a file and print server
    5) Look at an ongoing support contract of some variety

I reckon he's got a couple of options - either find a small company to do this for him or find someone who has got the time and inclination to do it

Any views? Any of you interested in doing it?

    cheers

Er...you do realize that there are a fair few people of the female persuasion here, don't you?
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? - Epicurus

It's funny where a random comment takes you. From the Pocket Oxford Dictionary:

chap n. colloq. man, boy, fellow. [abbreviation of *chapman]
chapman n. hist. pedlar. [Old English: related to *cheap, *man]
So from chap ---> pedlar. And what is an IT contractor, if not a pedlar of services?
If you read the best 3 books in any subject, you'll be in the top 5% of experts in the world.
