agree, its hard enough to remain positive with everything trying to drag you down, more boomed less gloom.

I just got my first "You're too senior a project manager for this role" phone call for this time on the bench.

How lucky am I? I'm just too good!

I did that a long time ago, along with not bothering to watch CNN when travelling even though it was the only English channel on the hotel TV!

sorry to hear that - so the client co did not jump at the chance of getting good skills at a lower rate then, or was it the agency who decided you were too senior?

The agency surley? Client co says "we require proj manager with between 5 and 8 years experience", in this market, thats exactly the cvs they will get (I would think). Especially if a role is out with multiple agents.
The Mods stole my post count!

It was a little girl from the agency that called to give me the good news.

                So that was nice.

So isn't that a reason for me to tone down my CV to shave off a few years experience?

Thats certainly what I would do. If you arent ticking all the boxes, you arent getting put forward to the client. Agents = simples.

I always tweak the cv to exactly fit the job spec whenever possible (its a exercise in sales, not truth telling).
