Biggest agency rip off I've seen for a long time.

Yesterday I was sent as job spec by agency "A" for which I have sent a CV.

Today I get an email from agency "B" with the same job description attached. The only difference? Agency "B" is offering a rate that is £15 to £20 per hour less for exactlt the same job. Given that it a 45 hour week job, that is quite some mark up!

And when you get an interview slot from agent B you phone up Agent A to say you want them to represent you at the higher rate. What you should be pi55ed about is agencies not putting you forward cos they put someone else less experienced and at a lower rate than you and make more from themselves.

The client will pay both agencies the same, for sure. Agency "B" simply sees an opportunity to take the pi55.

Oh yes, I overlooked that. Silly me. I'll take the £20/hr lower rate then.

I'm getting this all the time, I pitch myself in the middle and get nowhere.

I'm now thinking: Go in at the bottom and use the top end as bargaining chip come renewal time.

Getting your foot in the door is the hardest part these days.

Thing is, I'm waiting to see if I'm getting extended presently. For £60/hr I'd jump now. For £40/hr I'll sit and wait.
