    SWIFT Belgium Outsourcing to India

    Just had a call from a family friend to say all the contractors (apart from the odd specialist) are being binned end June and their roles outsourced to the sub continent. SWIFT have always had armies of contractors over the years so this is a major departure.

    This follows on a similar move by Glaxo in Belgium to do much of the same recently.

    I am not an expert, just someone who has experienced things first hand. If you need expert advice then seek out a qualified expert. My opinions are just that, my opinions. I could be wrong, and laws change, so trust nothing I say

    All the job offers from agents that I have received since I have been on the
    bench require fluent Dutch and French. I speak normal French and Dutch but
    not IT French and Dutch. The few guys who are trilingual can demand very high rates.
    Belgium is one of the highest tax countries so I am surprised they came here
    in the first place.

      Not sure language is the SWIFT issue as English is their business language, and there are a lot of non Belgies working there. Most of the International companies use English and whilst conversational French/Dutch is handy, only the government offices are insistent on bi/tri lingual skills.

      I've worked for Euroclear and Fortis, both language specific, yet being all English at interview did not hold me back. I'm now at a manufacturing company and half the staff, both permy and contractor, are non French/Dutch speaking.

      I tend to find if your skills are in demand the language thing is a non issue but, if you are one of a pool of resource for the company to choose from then sure a local and/or linguist is going to have the egde.

      Locals also tend to be cheaper and accept the crappy tax system.
