i've just had my contract terminated four weeks into a five month contract. I want a severance payment and payment for the notice period. The company says I waived my rights to any payment as I walked out immediately, rather than staying to work the two week notice period. what am I entitled to.

But they won't.Drivelling in TPD is not a mental health issue. We're just community blogging, that's all.

hope you get stung for walking out - assuming you're not a troll, in which case I feel silly for replying.
P.S. Why are you asking us a question that is almost certainly answered by your contract (that we haven't read)?Comment

Oh Dear
It's very bad form to walk out. My advice is to always stick to the letter of any signed agreement and remain professional.
You're lucky the agent isn't making deductions for breach of contract.Comment

As far as I am aware - the only folks who can make money from nothing are the Central Bankers - good try though - yeah if you walked without doing your notice 'fraid you're on your own.
Good luck though - unexpected termintation happens to the best of contractors - but dont walk , it is in your own interests to serve your notice period.
I would move on and get your next contract and put this down to experience.Last edited by AlfredJPruffock; 30 March 2009, 12:10.Comment
