    Contract to Perm..Good Choice..????

I have been contracting for last 10 years ...now in deep trouble...started applying for perm roles also..getting better response for perm roles than contract roles now..no contract interview calls in last 1 month...!

Now in final level interview for perm role which pays close to graduate entry level ..!

Is it worth takeing this PERM role or wait for better contract role..?? worried abt getting in to PERM prison..also worried abt "indefinite bench"..!!

    what you guys suggest..??

If you are desperate take it, some money coming in is better than none if you dont have a warchest to fall back on.

In the mean time make the most of the probable probation period to really work at finding a contract. Probabtion works both ways so you can walk at short notice as well as them being able to let you go.

i wouldnt do it again, it SUCKS. even if you have a savings account full with contract money, and you decided that youll settle for the easy life and let the basic cash trickle in for a few years - you will find that after a few months you are just cheap labour and will be expected to do even more for than you did previously for less. PERM jobs suck in IT, you will alwasy just be a resource, and businesses look at PERM opportunities to give you less and expect alot more.

Sounds quite bitter that, but I know exactly where you're coming from.

          Thats dead right.

Blimey !! You are contracting for 10 years and now ready to go for Grad rate. Thats the reason why you are getting so many Permie calls.

Its like a designer suit of harrods but shelved in Asda for £50 , so everyone wana buy it .....

No offence but if you really desperately need it then go for it.....

I was once told that everyone is a contractor , its just the length of notice that differs. Turns out thats true - but always comes as a big shock to staffers who have been at a Company for any length of time.
Why not look at it as a long term contract at low rates to get you by/thru current diffculties? You have minimal employee rights for at least 2 years ( i.e. no redundancy ) so its not far off the mark.
In the event of the Company needing to lose headcount rapidly they will not be hesitating to bin those last in.
The contract market place seems to be at coma state , the odd bit of flickering but generally nothing.
Personally I would consider a local permanent gig to get thru this year . After all some income is better than no income and it doesnt have to be a fixed choice forever .
