Need opinion on IT jobs in UK for HSMP

    Hi All,
I need opinion from fellow contractors already working in UK. I am a j2ee architect with 8 years of industry experience. I have worked in Germany for 2 years. Considering current job scenario in UK, what are my chances of finding a contract job there. Given that I can obtain HSMP on my own (still ₤600 costing in India). What are my chances of securing a contract in UK as Sr. J2EE consultant? will my chances of job increase if I already have HSMP before approaching any of the agencies? or should I wait for few months till econimical conditions are better. btw I am currently employed. thanks a lot for your advice in adavce.

Disclaimer: I dont belive in taking away jobs from locals, its just that I will have better work to do in UK than India. )

There's no skill shortage now, so you would only get a job in the UK if you greatly undercut the rates of UK workers, many of which are benched and would take a low rate role anyway.

Doubt if you'll get a visa now. Know a guy who's been waiting over 6 months and he's already in the UK. Thankfully our government are realizing the state of the job market in the UK and keeping you guys out.

I can't see how being a J2SE Architect in India is different to being a J2SE Architect in the UK as far as work. What I think you mean is "I can earn more money in the UK" or "There is too much competition here in India so I can only get J2SE developer roles" which is exactly the same scenario that is happening in the UK nowadays. A lot of contractors are qualified to do senior roles but are finding they are only being offered lower-level jobs as there is always somebody better qualified.

          Hello hard working person,

Unfortunately, due to the subprime issue in the USA, we have had to close the HSMP to new applicants. Sorry about that. Not really my fault.

However, knowing that cheap imported labour is more important than growing skills at home, we've opened the highly skilled worker (Tier 1 General) under our points-based system to work in the United Kingdom.

You don't need a job here first. It's points based but if you are young, speak English (seems like you do) and have a Phd or similar, you'll have no problem getting in whatsoever.

          See you soon.

          Gordon.
If you've got a problem and no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire...Gordon Brown ...( cue music )

He might have a problem. I know an Indian guy who qualifies and has been waiting 6 months with out an answer. Funny thing is, he's already here and because they've got his passport, can not even go for roles overseas (middle east for example). He's flipped - does he wait in hope, until the money runs out, or withdraw and try an get something outside the UK.

Funny how the govt. always wakes up when it's too late.
