    Notice period Issue?

    Hi

I have started a contract with a company A. Now, it's been 4 weeks totally and this contract is initially for 6 months. However, i have managed to get an another contract with a company B with in commutable distance and it is for 6months and they pay me more than company A.

Actually, it is less commutable and i can spend more time with my family as well.

Now, i have a notice period here for 1 month. How should i negotiate for 1 week?

    Any advice plz?

    Thanks

No that I recomend and kind of think the same as Dodgey......

Have a disucssion around family situation changing etc, you dont have to go in to details.

Lets face it, once you have approached the fact that want to leave they are hardly going to stand in your way as you arent permenant.

Just keep in mind, 6 months is 6 months and if you dont find anything at the end of that apart from a role at company X where you are leaving .......... you might be on the bench for a while.

I tend to agree with Dodgy here, I believe that integrity is important.

I realise that it's not a common viewpoint amongst contractors, but lack of integrity is a major factor in us having a lousy reputation with many clients as expensive, unreliable and unprofessional.

At the very least you should see out your contracted notice, if the client offers to reduce it then accept the offer graciously.

I for once agree with Dodgy. Have the integrity and professionalism to see this contract out. If you continually jump ship just when rate/location/client is better you'll have tough times ahead.

If it was that bad you shouldn't have taken it in the first place.

I would say that about 80% of contractors have great integrity
and about 20% of agents have any integrity.

I am acknowledging this before one of you suggests that we (agents) practice what I preach

If you don't leave, you'll spend the rest of the time regretting it. So think of a good way, preferably honourable, like saying the contract is not working out the way you thought and they should get someone else, or family issues about you being away. Don't mention the new role though. Next agree a weeks notice period with the client. That'll give them time to get a replacement. Don't worry about your agent or your client or indeed the fake agents on this board. They can all look after themselves and would get shot of you as quickly as possible if for example your project was canned.

I agree integrity is important... But, this company A told me that iam going to work in one thing and then after coming on board they completely changed their priorties.

As a contractor, every opportunity is a stepping stone and it should be in that way. But, this role is defintely not as they are completely in CHAOS.

BTW, as a contractor we are paid a lot to work their issues. But, everyone is having their own expertise.

And the role in company B is a great one which i know very well as i have worked earlier in the company B.

So, i don't want to sound RUDE here... why should i finish my contract period when they don't have any integrity at all? They say one thing in the interview and then suck your blood just because you are contractor.

Let's see hw to negotiate a 1 week period.

                  Thanks

Oh well that's OK then, as long as you are happy f**k em. Why a one week notice period? why dont you just say that a family member has died and walk straight out. They won't question that one.

Rember those that you s**t on on the way up won't forget you on your way back down.
