1 other thing, how do you know when a new job has been advertised? As there are so many sites, its a pain in the backside trying to go through them all.
I'll let some of the offer some advice regarding your CV. As long as you can get the formatting sorted, it should be ok. It may be worth sending the CV to a couple of agencies for their advice.

Regarding the job alerts, you may want to sign up to Jobserve, CWJobs, Jobsite and other job boards advertised on this site.
If your company is the best place to work in, for a mere £500 p/d, you can advertise here.

here's another tip Bill - sign up to linkedin.com and fill in your profile.

i've lost track of the amount of agents who have found me via that site.
        its a superb lead generator.

just noticed something with bill's cv

          "Clearswift MIMEsweeper (6months)"

some agents might read that as "Minesweeper" - the windows game - thinking that you are taking the piss..

maybe rewrite it to be Clearswift Anti Virus or something obvious like that.

It should be left as it is as most agencies use keyword searches and Mimesweeper could be a trigger that may bring up the candidates CV.

              ok fair point.

but i was just giving my first impression when scanning it..

a client might take it the wrong way.

another tip - and its worked for me in the past.

on every contract, try to get the skype ids of the folks you are working with.

pretty soon, your skype contacts book will be loaded up with other contractors and permies.

and if you like certain people on a personal level, its no harm to ping them a skype chat message. in fact, its been the reverse with me - folks sending me chat messages about contracts on offer.

some of the more clued up agents also have skype ids. worth getting them added as well.

rephlex, thanks for the liknedin site, will do. As for Mimesweeper, if pimp reads that and thinks I have put down the windows game on my cv, well good luck to them, i'm sure there will be someone out there who does know what it means..

just saying that you might be going for a shop that doesnt use it or have heard of it. i certainly know about it - but even i registered the "minesweeper" word when just having a quick look.

i had to look twice .

now , if some client is in a hurry and just scanning cv's , they MIGHT skip over your one because of this.

(terrible name for product i must admit)
