    Good, Bad and Ugly

After seeing so many jokers in the rec industry and threads I thought id give my experience on how I approach them

Ive been a contractor for about 12 years - I am fortunate enough to never have been out of a role and I work in the Enterprise Architecture / Infrastructure Space so there has always been a demand with very few good people [although to say i am good would make me deluded :-)]

Of late I have been asked if Id be interested in going perm - and this week I thought Id test the waters - without trying - karma I guess - today I get a call from a not-to-common agency -

In 12 years of working in IT I have come across the ultimate filth and out right idiotic examples of Recruiters - but in that time I can only think of 3 people who I would rate as GOOD recruiters and honest - How sad!

Anyway today i get the call - spoke to them - and she actually was interested in what I did and experience and how it relates to the role - its a profilic role with a leading company and so they have given it to the search and selection companies [although I am sure many may tarnish them with the same brush] - but to her credit she was good!

Told me the industry and area of the role - then went on to go through the requirements -and then started asking about what I have done and how I can be of value with the role etc - I mean she actually knew what she was talking about! As we got talking it emerged that the role was open for 3 months - and the last candidate got to the final interview with the CTO but he turned them down. So they have started again.

Finished off with her telling me the client, asking me to read the job spec and think about it and then get back to her with my updated CV - which I did - and now it's been forwarded.

Got to say - I am more impressed with the company - little known outfit to us in Central London.

Why cant they all be like this?

On the flip side - I have been evil in the past - One agent what I can only class as a XR4i Chav Boy of the 1980's thought he was da man. Foned me asking me what I am doing, would I be interested in a role and what rate I am on. He then says his company actually are the preferred supplier of Architects to a particular company I was at - which they werent as I did the hiring and interviewing - so I said "oh so you must know so and so" - [which was a fake name] and he says "Yes - we only deal with him" - so I say "Well thats odd as I just made it up" - fone goes quiet - then he says "sorry mate - I thought you said John "another name" - lol - long story short I ended up giving him a mobile number of a few escort agencies off google in central London on the pretence of them being mobile numbers of the peopel in charge of recruitment.

Another one was slightly worse- I was forwarded for a contract position which I was pretty sure Id get due to my expeirence and another agent found out after a conversation with me - the little scrot forwarded MY CV to the same client and back dated the data BEFORE the original one had sent it! Other agent fones me up and says "have I been forwarded for the role by someone else" I hadnt to my knowledge - so he went back to the client saying who it was and what agency which I got told. I was fuming so I foned him back and told them why they did this? And he said they hadnt forwarded it and it was a administration error! Anyway - long story short I went down there and waited for him outside his office and took him aside with some few words of particular choice [luckily the security guards made the mistake of calling him on his fone at which point he was walking down in receiption so I knew it was the right guy!] - never seen a guy so flaming scared it was embarrasing - im sure he would have wet himself if Id have been aggressive! Sadly he was also around 25, 110lb soaking wet and one ugly mofo! Never heard from that agency ever again!

Im a nice guy though! I just dont take idiots well!

I though perhaps it was irony.

Good agents? Nick Galley. And those lovely ladies at PeopleCo. I earned some referal fees off them - and I didn't know they had a referal scheme until they asked where to send the cheque.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!
