    Company names

I'm just mulling over setting up a Ltd company for contracting purposes and am trying to think up a good name.

I want to keep it fairly flexible (e.g. meaningless) so I can use it to cover other ventures.

I've read the guides and so on, but I'm interested to know what kind of format people are actually using.

I can pretty much assure you that you'll agonise over a name, ask advice from all and sundry, read expert advice, finally you make it official. As soon as it can't be changed, you'll hate it.

Well, it's always that way for me. Three times now.

We don't need to know about your tattoos, and associated organs. What about the company name

On a more serious note: I believe I'm correct in saying that you can choose a "trading name" other than your company name, although you then have to conform to certain legal requirements about declaring the actual name of the company behind it all. So you could have

        Super
        Zoomy
        Rocket Science

        t.a. Norfolk Cauliflower Graders Ltd.

(where "t.a." stands for "trading as") and still be legal.

Jesus wept! Do some people really, really think they can make it in the contracting world if they cant even think up a limited co name?

Do they have the same problem thinking up their new born baby's name too?

I've looked, and both superzoomyrocketscience.com and norfolkcauliflowergraders.com are available.

If you work through agents it never matters anyway. I have X Software Ltd., where X is a nonsense word I got from Blakes 7, and own both X.com and X.co.uk.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Funny that mines a mixture of the 2 kids names, 3rd one on the way in 8 weeks. Anyone got any ideas on what to call him.

Not sure he'll like being called Limited
