Sometimes they drop the big names because they think they'll impress you. Or just because it makes them feel better about themselves. Usually along with the fact that they are "really good mates with the MD" (which means "the MD once laughed at one of my crap football jokes out of politeness").
There's usually nothing sinister about it.
Maybe he thought you were a good fit, then realised "hang on...programmer and programme manager...they're not the same thing are they?"Comment
