(PS if you need one, our [Labour] government hand them out like sweeties at a Gary Glitter convention),
The new parliamentary think-tank on migration is expected to call on the Government to slash the number of non-EU migrants who are allowed to stay in the UK permanently after their work permits expire.
Led by Labour maverick Frank Field and Conservative former minister Nicholas Soames, the Migration Advisory Committee will call on ministers to balance immigrant numbers with emigrants to stabilise the population.
But Immigration Minister Liam Byrne ruled out putting caps and quotas on immigrant numbers.
He said: "Our tough new points system plus our plans for newcomers to earn their citizenship will reduce overall numbers of economic migrants coming to Britain, and the numbers awarded permanent settlement.
I have just been through the process of recruiting a new team & it amazed me the number of applicants that seemed quite proud to state on their C.V. that they held a Tier 1 visa.
...straight in the bin
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

To the thick and dumb people like me... what's a Tier 1 visa?
If your company is the best place to work in, for a mere £500 p/d, you can advertise here.
I'd disagree with you there. If you're bright enough, smart enough and confident enough, you'll be able to blag it and deliver. That's a true contractor.
Damn straight. For my first contract I completley cuffed it from the start. Didn't have any "training" in what I was doing. But I was a bright lad and just thought that I could do it and just worked out.
ClientCo then built a 3million sq ft. warehouse where I told them to do it.
They asked me back a few months ago so they ust be happy

I take it you haven't worked with many HSMP's.......
The most important criteria is being able to blag it to somebody who does not work in your field because as soon as you start dealing with people who do know your field it soon becomes apparent that you know feck all....
Well that is probably slightly harsh, I have worked with one guy who had an HSMP who was tulip hot and really knew his stuff, the other 30 odd have been complete wastes of space who are just looking to freeload however....

Why?
How do you decide whether a person is good at his job or not, just by looking at his/her visa?
Interesting that the web site you link to claims to be "The world's most popular immigration advice site" and also to be celebrating its "20th Anniversary Year" - meaning it's older than the web itself. I wonder how they managed that
Thanks. So it's an equivelent to the Australian Green Pass (or whatever it is called) program. The younger you are and the more money you earn the better. Entry requirements into the UK seems to be a bit relaxed.
