Yes, but who cares about the reason given, as long as they honour the contractual notice period. -
When the clients know that I won't just hang around billing if there's no work to do, they tend to keep renewing, and they don't object to my above average rates. Sometimes I've just taken a week off, or worked three day weeks for a while, or got another part-time or short term contract. It keeps things interesting, and it builds an excellent reputation.
If I wanted just to sit in an office wasting time, I'd have remained a permie.
If you can negotiate a notice clause, all well and good. If you insist on one, then go back to the slavery of permiedom where you belong.

That's incredibly short sighted given the original poster's comments! In effect, you are giving them freedom to withold the money for 4 weeks notice for a start. Second, you are allowing them to effectively give a bad reference on you to the agent whom, you may want to apply for a particular role in the future.
Im saying I wouldnt give any client of mine that freedom but others can do so if they chose.I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

You have mis-interpreted
. I said that I do not really care what the client tells me as a reason for contract termination. If it has been decided then that is it. I move on. BUT I want any notice period honoured. If they withheld money for any unjustified reason I would of course fight it. If they give me the money they can say what they like. I'm thick skinned - you need to be in this business to be successful

I wouldnt because I believe what they may say could have far greater consequences than receiving 4 weeks money could justify.

Any and all help and advice is welcomed. Sensible advice that is.

If someone directly says something that is not true I will counter it. Whether at the client site or after. Of course I do not take things lying down. But many things we have no control over and if someone does not like me for any reason I will not try to be their friend. I do my job successfully and only have very occasional issues like this. Some people will say anything. This saying isn't even true when talking literally. If they are terminating with notice, they just use something neutral like a project reorganisation or if they know that this is obviously false will say something like "didn't fit in".
Trumped up reasons are just asking to be challenged, so why use them if you are honouring the contract?
