Did agent nicked my contract?

Hello All,

Been lurking here quite a while and registered today to post my first thread. Last friday attended interview with client for a sc role - interviewd for one hour - asked when can i start - client also took my references on forms. Client tells me i will get to know on monday. Shook hands and left, thought i did well. Called agent all this week - says no feedback yet. Yesterday evening agent drops me mail saying - 'Your skill sets don't match project at current stage'. I think he used me as a spare candidate. Should i write to client a 'thank you' note? Any one thinks some thing dodgy?

Just didn't get the job, so move on. They probably had a better candidate. Chasing up agents is a total waste of time, as if there is good news, they will be all over you like a bad rash. If you are not selected in the most part they will not waste their time telling you bad news. As for the thankyou letter

Nothing particularly dodgy. That sort of thing happens all the time.

I usually write a thank you note in those circumstances, but nothing ever comes of it.

Got my hopes raised when client asked when can i start. Thought he wouldn't need 1 hr to know my skills don't match project - he should of known from my CV - cost me 50£ and half day to attend. Agent set this up in 2 days but took 5 days to tell 'Unfortunately....'. Always had feedback in couple of days max. Anyway... i moved on... to jobserve again.

There's nothing to lose by writing a thank-you note. Agents do lie. Chances are you the agent couldn't be bothered to give you proper feedback. He'd probably already forgotten who you are.

I do know, however, of situations where writing a thank-you note such as:

Dear blah

I would like to thank-you for taking the time last week to interview me. The project looked interesting, and I think I would have been a good fit, so I was disappointed to find out from the agent that, on this occasion, I was unsuccessful. Should future opportunities arise, I would be grateful if you would keep me in mind. For your records, my contact details are:

....

Yours Sincerely.

resulted in a call from the agent a few days later, with a job offer. This is especially the case if you've been disputing anything with the agent.
