    Taking more than 30% commission

    Morning,

Just a quick note to advise you that I had the unfortunated luck to start contrating for <name removed> and after a while by pure conincidence I found out that they were taking more than 30% commission from me (I though it would not exceed the 20%) I confronted them and they denied it...after all we did not reached any consensus and I left the contract lossing a sustancial amount of money.

So my piece of advise is if you have to work with them /sign a contract make sure that you clear visibility with regards commission/ margins oterwise you might get ripp off like a I did.

    regards

They are not taking 30% commission from you.

they are paying you what you agreed with them, and then charging the end client 30% more than this for their services.

It is the end client who is paying the 30%, not you.
    Still Invoicing

absolutely. having said that, knowing the agency cut is very useful information to have when negotiating, even if it is technically none of your business.

You didn't get ripped off. You got exactly what you agreed to in your contract. The contract was with the agent. How much the agent was getting paid was beteen the client and the agent. Do you some research and get an understanding of the contractor/agent/client relationship.

          I'll second that.

So long as you were happy with the rate, why get into a state about it now? I know it's painful having the agency get paid for doing nothing, but you accepted the initial rate and must have been happy with it.

Now, havign learned that the agency was charging a massive 30%, you could have used this to negotiate a rise for yourself at the next renewal.

Having said that, perhaps you moved into a better paying contract anyway. I always agree that you should look after yourself first and foremost, but try not to be unprofessional to your end clients. Hopefully you didn't burn any bridges.

              Let me get this straight.

You were concerned that the agency were charging 30% of what the end client were paying for your services which was costing you money and you resorted to costing yourself 100% of the client fee?

I'm not sure I understand your logic on this.

                  oh dear. Poor newbie

My last contract, the supplier was taking 50% each and every day. For about 30 seconds I was peeved then I got my head down and worked for my mutually agreed rate and ended up with an 18 month contract.

Think before you moan, you'll make more money

Why should you care what the agency are taking? If you were happy with the rate what's the problem?

With the current climate, can you afford to be that picky?
