Taking more than 30% commission

Jeez. What planet do you people live on? If the agency took a more reasonable industry standard percentage of say 15% then the poster can get additional money, which of course he is interested in. Even if I was happy with my rate I would not want the agency to take 30% (because basically I can take my skills elsewhere). I cannot understand when people say "it's none of your business". In the past at renewal I have negotiated the agent's rate down so I can get more, clearly it has something to do with me! I always make a point of getting the agents rate in writing as well. Because in the past I have been told verbally they are taking 10% to discover it is 30%. I was NOT happy with the rate but felt being in contract was more important as it was a really bad time for contracts. It turns out the agency was also lying to the client as well so when by chance it all came out the agent got into huge trouble all round. I actually got the 10% backdated to the start of the contract on the insistance of the client. -
Lewis, I don't understand how you can insist on knowing the pimps percentage, that's commercially sensitive information between the pimp and the client and I'm astonished that you have ever had the info.
It's simple the agent and the client have a contract and you or YourCo and the agent have a contract, you don't usually have a contract with the end client if there is an agent involved.
I agree I hate the agents taking a large cut, but if it's a case of pay the pimp or don't work I will pay the pimp every time.Comment

Been contracting for 10 years. Never had an agent refuse to tell me their commission and in the last 5 years never had one refuse to put it in an email. if they did refuse to do so I would assume they are up to something fishy and probably go elsewhere. Maybe it's just me, but that's the way I operate. Each to their own.Originally posted by TykeMerc View PostLewis, I don't understand how you can insist on knowing the pimps percentage, that's commercially sensitive information between the pimp and the client and I'm astonished that you have ever had the info.Comment

Been contracting for 17 years and never been able to get the info up front from and agency. Frequently found out by backhanded methods of course.Comment

So my piece of advise is if you have to work with them /sign a contract make sure that you clear visibility with regards commission/ margins oterwise you might get ripp off like a I did.

It took me ages to read that.Comment

I don't give a sh*t what the agency makes out the deal, I signed a deal with them for the money I was happy with, what they make is no concern to me.The cycle of life: born > learn > work > learn > dead.Comment

God! Not another one?
When will people learn that if you ask for a certain rate and get it, you were obviously happy with that. Why then, should you become unhappy at finding out the agent's commission?
To then compoud it by ending your contract meaning you lost 100% of what you'd asked for just beggars belief.I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

well, just because somebody's happy with £100, that doesn't stop them from being happier with £110.Comment

It seems, a tad, that your are throwing your toys out the pram ?
Normally I establish the rate offered is the market rate - at least a rate that Im happyu with
If later I gain an extension due to merit then there is scope of negotiating a bigger slice of the Pie.
Whatever you do - good luck !Comment
