Check the VAT in Germany. The German authorities are very thorough at cross checking, and if necessary they'll chase you in the UK.I'm alright JackComment

I'm in exactly same boat here and don't charge the UK agent VAT.Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostCheck the VAT in Germany. The German authorities are very thorough at cross checking, and if necessary they'll chase you in the UK.
As for what the HMRC seem to suggest is a possibility confuses me. They indicate VAT may be chargeable in Germany but by who???? I don't have a contract with the end client and I don't bill them!
Sounds like a blanket covering ass statement that isn't relevant.Comment

Well they only speak German and are based here in Darmstadt which might be a little bit out of your way, but here is a list of Steuerberaters who deal mainly with the IT branch and are recommended by IT people here in Germany and you might find one in your area:Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostWant to share them? I will be needing one and personal recomendations are always better.

There is one in Lich who is not here and speaks English and deals with contractors in Frankfurt but can't seem to find his name. Will continue to search though...“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

A question: What about the self employed consultants (ltd.) from UK working in germany - do they possibly have to pay income taxes in germany?
Comment

not "possibly", if they become ordinarily resident here then they "must". The major pointer to resident status is being here more than half a calendar year.Comment

Further to this, the way you do your VAT in Germany has changed this year. You now have to pay monthly whereas before you paid quartely. What you can do is get your accountant to pay monthly but only do the totting up at the end of the year which will save you bookkeeping fees or they can do that monthly for you as well. Doing it the first way doesn't actually show you a realisitc figure of how much VAT you are paying them or will be getting back though.Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostCheck the VAT in Germany. If you Bill to a UK client (directly - no agents) and work abroad for them;
Any expenses you invoice for (hotels, travel etc) MUST have UK VAT added.
Don't assume that the German tax replaces UK VAT.
IR stung me for this on one gig.
I'm pretty sure this applies to agents as well.Comment

How much does one expect to pay in tax for a year. I am registered as a freiberufler, renting in Germany. To keep things simple, lets say you earned 100,000Euro for the year.
I've read some posts here saying you get to keep about 65%, but i've read eslsewhere that you could be paying out 45% to th taxman due to income being in the higher bracket.Comment
